With 119 votes in favor, 44 against and 16 abstentions, the Parliament passed the bill proclaiming the report about the amendment related to the loan agreement of the Paks II. project - announced MTI.

János Süli, the minister responsible for the Paks II. the project previously said about the interstate loan agreement: following the successful negotiations of the Hungarian government, the Paks investment financing agreement will be amended in favor of Hungary.

The agreement is advantageous because it has a long term and the country has the right to prepay the amount already raised at face value at any time – highlighted János Süli. According to the minister, the amendment will not affect the interest rate level, however, the principal repayment of the loan will start in 2031, after the commissioning of the two new power plant units, so that the repayment can already be generated by the power plant.

The Russian-Hungarian loan agreement provides eighty percent of the investment value in the long term as a financial safety net. Hungary has prepaid all invoices so far, Hungary currently has no debt to Russia in connection with the Paks II. project.
