Another important phase is starting in the construction of Paks II Nuclear Power Plant: on 18 March the construction of the Unit 6 excavation pit to the design level began. During this, nearly half a million cubic meters of soil will be removed from the 150-meter-wide and 190-meter-long excavation pit to reach the depth of 23 meters during the excavation. Thirty units of machinery were deployed to start the works and the process will last until the end of 2026.
The ceremony of the first concrete pouring of Unit 5 took place in Paks and the new Paks nuclear power plant is now considered under construction according to the IAEA's terminology.
The forging of the reactor vessel for unit six began in one of Europe's largest automated forging plants in St. Petersburg, Russia. The production is taking place in accordance with the strictest EU and Hungarian regulations, during which the reactor vessel undergoes extremely strict, with around 700 quality checks in the process.
This happened in 2024 in the Paks II project.
Deepening of the excavation pit is continuing for the planned Unit 5 – Péter Szijjártó announced.
