In response to the announcement by the Austrian Ministry of the Environment – that Austria, which has been known for decades to have an antinuclear position has brought an action before the European Court of Justice for the EU approval of the state aid to Paks maintenance of performance – the Prime Minister’s Office emphasized that it has no suspensive effect on the project, the investment continues.

The statement notes that the European Commission's decision approving Paks II. project took into account and evaluated the Austrian comments that Austria indicated to the EU in February 2016 during the formal competition investigation, but did not find them to be professionally substantiated.

The Prime Minister’s Office underlined that intensive dialogue is taking place between the two countries for decades regarding the nuclear field. The statement reminds that the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context (Espoo Convention) deemed the environmental impact assessment of Paks II. project best practice, while the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency also called it best practice as well.
