Péter Szijjártó: the Paks II. project is an excellent platform for international cooperation
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Siemens Energy's 17000-square-meter factory, training center and solar park in Budapest, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade said that the company's investment program perfectly covers the main objectives of the Hungarian energy strategy, namely to be able to produce as much of the energy needed for its operations as possible.
– Recent years have shown that a country can be strong if it has the right capabilities to produce energy. This is why we are costructing the new Paks units – Péter Szijjártó emphasized. He added that the German corporate giant, with which Hungary has entered into a strategic cooperation agreement, will continue to be a key player in the security of Hungary's energy supply in the future, because it has won the tender for the supply of the I&C technology for the new Paks nuclear power plant together with the French company Framatome. In this context he pointed out that the Paks investment is a truly international project, with American, French, German, Austrian and Swiss companies involved in the project alongside the Russian Contractor.
– Major international companies are working together to connect the two new units to the grid early in the next decade. What is happening in Hungary today in the nuclear energy field also gives us some hope that common sense is not yet completely lost in international life, and hope that in the future we may be able to return to normal international cooperation based on mutual respect – he said.
The minister said that Hungary intends to remain a meeting point for Eastern and Western economies in the future, and the Hungarian government encourages cooperation between Eastern and Western companies.
The newly inaugurated Siemens multi-functional plant will produce gas turbine combustors, the training center will train Hungarian technicians, and the new solar farm will have a capacity of 1,5 megawatts.
