The European Commission has approved the implementation and financing agreement for the project.

The European Commission has approved the amendments to the agreements for the implementation of the two new Paks units, Péter Szijjártó announced on Thursday morning. The Foreign Minister recalled that in order to speed up the project, the Hungarian and Russian sides agreed in April on amendments to the implementation and financing agreements, which were approved by the EU on Wednesday.

– The amendment of the agreements will allow the new Paks NPP units to enter into operation at the beginning of the next decade, while complying with the strictest safety standards. After the preparations, the spectacular physical works can now start at the site – Péter Szijjártó said, adding that given Hungary's geographical characteristics, nuclear energy is the best option of protection from the uncertainties of the international energy market.
