More than 100 nuclear professionals from 22 countries on four continents participate in person or online at the CAMP (Code Application and Maintenance Program) conference in Budapest, which kicked off on 23 May. The collaboration, coordinated by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), has been developing computer codes to perform various nuclear safety assessments since the 1970s. These thermohydraulics and neutron kinetics codes, which are recognized worldwide in professional circles, have been available to Hungarian experts since the 1990s. The current meeting is not only important for the promotion of scientific exchange, it is also topical because the independent safety analyses of the two VVER-1200 units to be built at Paks, are being carried out by Hungarian experts using, among other things, the codes provided by CAMP.

– It is a great opportunity for us to learn from the best experts in the nuclear power plant construction project, supervised by our company, even at the preparatory stage, and to adopt their good practices – Gergely Jákli emphasised at the opening of the conference. The Chairman-CEO of Paks II. Ltd. added: – International cooperation permeates our everyday life, as we are adding components from Western European and US suppliers to Rosatom's primary circuit technology during the construction of the two new units.

CAMP Project Manager Chris Hoxie, told the press that thirty countries from all over the world are participating in the CAMP cooperation. – Together we are stronger and can achieve a higher degree of safety than if we all work alone – he said, adding that he is honoured to continue this fruitful cooperation and exchange of experience with the world's best nuclear engineers this time in Hungary.

On the final day of the conference, participants will also visit the Paks Nuclear Power Plant and see the works at the site of the new units.
