The second unit of Belarus' first nuclear power plant was connected to the grid on 13 May, NucNet reported. At Astravec, upgraded 3+ generation VVER-1200 units, similar to Paks, have been installed, bringing the number of operating reactors of this type to six with the commissioning of Unit 2.

The first VVER-1200 units were built in Russia: two units in Novovoronezh and two in Sosnovy Bor near St. Petersburg. In addition to these, many more units of this type are being built around the world, from Egypt to Turkey.
