In the third lecture of the conference in Győr, dr. Ferenc Kereki, Managing Director Plc. for Radioactive Waste Management, outlined the temporary and final storage practices of radioactive waste with different activities, describing the facilities in Hungary. The director drew attention to the importance of social relations and addressed the research program for the location of high activity radioactive waste.

János Süli and the Hungarian delegation informed the leaders of the IAEA in Vienna about the actualities of the Paks II. project and the major achievements and results of the last two year. The parties agreed that the new nuclear power plant units are essential for Hungary. János Süli told the reporters an agreement was made to continue and strengthen the decade-long constructive technical cooperation. The minister added the IAEA does not participate in international debates and decisions regarding energy issues, but following the decisions it provides professional support for the safe construction and operation of the facilities.

Gyula Fichtinger, the CEO of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority said that there is an ongoing coordination with the IAEA about the Paks II. project. According to the agreement before the start of the construction of the new power plant units, probably next year, the IAEA will send an evaluating mission which during the inspection of the establishment license application – just like the Hungarian authority – will check if the plans and designs meet the strictest international standards and requirements.
