The implementation begins with the construction of the staging area
It is a serious risk for the Hungarian economy that the electricity imports have been more than 30 percent over the years – said János Süli, the minister without portfolio responsible for the erection of the new nuclear power plant units of Paks on 1 December in Szekszárd, at the forum of the Tolna County Chamber of Engineers. János Süli explained that in 2030, with the closure of several Hungarian power plants, including the Mátra Power Plant, a capacity of 5000 megawatts would be missing from the Hungarian electricity system. These facts support the importance of the erection of new nuclear power plant units with a total capacity of 2,400 MW.
Dr. Attila Aszódi’s presentation
The implementation of the Paks II. project starts with the construction of the so-called staging area – told Dr. Attila Aszódi, the state secretary for the maintenance of the performance of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant at the Szekszárd forum. He also added that the two new 3+ gen. units and the turbine island systems contain several new parts compared to the currently operating power plant units. He said as an example, that the turbines will be „half-turn”, they will operate with 1500 turns per minute, instead of 3000/min. It has been said that offers received for turbine tender are currently being evaluated by the Russian party. As is known, the GE Hungary Ltd. – Alstom Power System’s consortium and the Russian Silovie Masini made an offer for the turbine tender.
Dr. Attila Becskeházi’s presentation
Dr. Attila Becskeházi State Secretary responsible for infrastructure development, innovation and localization told on Szekszárd that 500 housing, infrastructural, educational and hospitality projects have been prepared in the region of Paks. He emphasized that the Hungarian enterprises are expected to reach the largest supplier rate via construction and engineering investments. According to Attila Becskeházi the Hungarian businesses can take part in the project through strong integration.
János Süli at the event of Entrepreneurial Salon
The Paks II. investment was also in spotlight at the Friday night event of the Entrepreneurial Salon in Szekszárd, where János Süli minister spoke about the strict expectations for the contractor in order to have the two new nuclear power plant units amongst the world’s best, just like the currently operating two units. The participants of the event could listen to the two state secretaries speaking about energy policy and other topics connected to the project’s implementation.
