Carbon-free energy was discussed at the University of Dunaújváros

The two new NPP units designed for Paks will produce electricity CO2-free, in a great amount until the end of this century, helping Hungary achieve its climate protection goals – declared State Secretary Pál Kovács at the press conference held before the Science Week Introductory Professional Day, organized by the University of Dunaújváros.

The Science Week of the University of Dunaújváros was started on 11 November 2019 by the Carbon-free Energy Professional Day. At the press conference launching the program, rector István András recalled that one year ago, the agreement was signed with Minister János Süli and Paks II. Ltd. to launch the competence center of Paks. He added the university has a close relationship with Paks, they are trying to tune their training portfolio to the developments there.

Pál Kovács, State Secretary for the maintenance of capacity of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant talked at the press conference and then in plenary session about the need to build our country's energy mix to guarantee security of supply and to be largely carbon-free.

- It is an enormous challenge for decision makers and the industry to rationally combine existing resources to create an appropriate energy mix – he said. He stressed the need for nuclear energy in this portfolio, with the new units guaranteeing carbon-free electricity generation until the end of the century.

During the plenary session, following State Secretary Pál Kovács and representatives of Rosatom and Paks Nuclear Power Plant, lead expert dr. Natália Kiss outlined the status of the Paks II. project, with particular reference to steps and plans in the area of training of professionals.
 
Visitors to the Carbon-free Energy Professional Day also had a chance to learn about nuclear energy at the stands of Paks II. or the Museum of Nuclear Energy.
