According to the certified data of MAVIR, the domestic consumption of electricity reached a new high. On 6 December 2018, the average quarterly system load in the afternoon was estimated at about 6843 MW according to verified data. On the basis of the data available since 1955, there was no higher average peak. On a typical winter weekday, the peak time system load usually ranges from 6000 to 6600 MW.
According to the system operator, the Hungarian power system delivers supply without any problems. „The required supply is available," said Zoltán Tihanyi, deputy CEO for System Operations and International Relations of MAVIR, regarding the system load record. He added that market participants purchase electricity from domestic sources and imports according to consumer demand. The system operator provides the cross-border transmission network capacities that cover the needs altogether.
