MET organized this year’s Hungarian Energy Symposium about decarbonization, decentralization and digitalization. The conference of 21 November 2019 was opened by Pál Zarándy, the chair of the organization.
– Maintaining nuclear capacities is of key importance – expressed Éva Szlottáné Totok, head of department of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology in her lecture called National Energy Strategy 2030, with an outlook until 2040. According to her, the aim is to increase the share of carbon-free electricity production to 90% by 2040. She highlighted: the Energy Strategy and the National Energy and Climate Plan must be put in the context of economic development.
Miklós Horváth described the status of the Paks II. project. – We think of the maintenance of the nuclear capacity as a foundation stone – expressed the deputy CEO of Paks II. Ltd. The Company already acquired more than 400 licenses, the most important task is the compilation and submittal of the implementation license application by 30 June 2020 to the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority. The Basic Design documentation – on which the more than 300.000 pages long document package will be based – was handed over to Paks II. Ltd. by the Russian Contractor in October – he specified. He added that the construction works of the first facilities necessary for the project are well underway.
The one-day conference’s main topic was also the issue of energy efficiency. In connection with this, energy efficiency measures are being developed not only at EU but also at domestic levels, and the aim is to reduce energy dependency as well. Therefore while shaping the Hungarian energy mix, not only nuclear energy has an important role in the future, but increasing the share of renewables is also emphasized – was noted at the conference.
