János Süli: nuclear energy has a decisive role in climate protection

The Paks II. project attended AtomEco international forum and exhibition, organized by Rosatom in Pécs. A press conference was held at the new stand of Paks II. Ltd. by minister János Süli, who told that nuclear energy and Paks II. project has an important role in climate protection.

Pécs hosted the international public forum and exhibition "ATOMECO 2019" organized by the social council of the State Atomic Energy Corporation, Rosatom, the event was held abroad (outside Russia) for the first time.

As a traditional opening of the two-day-long conference at the Kodály Centre, some of the participants – including minister János Süli – planted forty emerald trees at Tüskésréti-tó in Pécs.

The minister without portfolio responsible for the design, construction and commissioning of the two new nuclear power plant units of Paks Nuclear Power Plant said that the next important task during the following months is the completion and handing over of the construction licence application. According to János Süli, the project owns more than 400 licences, including the site- and environmental licenses. He reminded, that the secretariat of UN Espoo Convention declared: the Hungarian procedure is exemplary.

Following this the minister without portfolio responsible for the planning, implementation and commissioning of the two new nuclear power plant units of Paks spoke at a press conference about the importance of preparing and submitting an application for an implementation license in the coming months.

János Süli said the project already has more than 400 licenses, among them the site and environmental licenses. He reminded everyone, the UN Secretariat of Espoo deemed the Hungarian licensing process “best practice”.

Construction is underway in the construction and erection base since this summer, with a total of about eighty buildings needed to be constructed. He added: the Russian Party indicated it intends to enlist more and more Hungarian suppliers. Answering a journalist's question, the minister emphasized that nuclear power plants produce the most carbon-free electricity in Europe. He added that the Hungarian government was acted responsibly regarding climate protection when it decided to build on nuclear energy in the long-term next to renewable energy sources.

At the various international forums, social dialogue on nuclear energy, security, new technologies have been on the agenda, and how nuclear and other carbon-free or low-carbon sources contribute to global climate protection goals.

Four hundred invited guests shared their experiences and opinions in four sections and at the plenary session closing the day's professional program. Representing Paks II., beside minister János Süli, State Secretaries Pál Kovács and Dr. Attila Becskeházi attended the professional discussion.

Gábor Kovács, Technical Director of Paks II. Ltd. presented the innovative solutions used on VVER-1200 units designed for Paks in the section of the conference about safety and security. Péter Bognár, Human Resources Director talked about the project's specialist needs and the company's training programs at a professional exhibition in parallel with the Kodály Center.

 
The stand of Paks II. Ltd. was introduced at the conference, which, similar to the information truck and the information tent, serves an information role about the construction of the new NPP units and nuclear energy in general. The Company plans to attend job fairs, scientific exhibitions, conferences, energy exhibitions with the stand which has a unique design is equipped with modern technology, which  also consists of several modules, so its size can be adapted to different events.
