The minister responsible for the Paks II. project and his state secretaries, MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant Ltd., Paks II. Ltd. and the Municipality of Paks had a joint meeting on 4 April 2018 in Paks about the Paks II. investment, and the cooperation in the joint development of the city and the region.

Péter Szabó, mayor of Paks said at the press conference held before the personal coordination that such a development is going to happen in the city which was the case beforehand during the construction of the first nuclear power plant. The infrastructural development connected to the Paks II. investment, upgrade of housing possibilities and service sector means an economic stability in the long run. The project means development for several decades for the city and its surrounding settlements, and economic opportunities for the local SMEs. He highlighted: the slogan of the city is „Paks, the city of cooperation”, and this cooperation is needed in the time of the establishment of the new power plant units.

István Hamvas, CEO of MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant Ltd. said the Paks NPP can generate electricity at the lowest price in Hungary, therefore it is important that nuclear capacity is provided following the decommissioning of the current four power plant units. He added that the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) ranked the Paks NPP in the best category regarding safety. The CEO highlighted that without new nuclear power plant units the secure domestic electricity supply is unimaginable. About the relation between the two nuclear companies he added, that the establishment of the new units means a professional perspective for those who are working in the currently operating nuclear power plant or plan to work there as the expertise will be needed during the operation of the new nuclear power plant, following the decommissioning of the Paks NPP.

István Lenkei, CEO of Paks II. Ltd. called up, that the project has a final environmental license, obtained the site license as well, and the experts of the company are currently working on compiling the establishment license application. Regarding transparency he said Paks II. Ltd. has its sight on informing the public. He provided the interactive information truck as a good example which is currently travelling in Western Hungary, adding that since the start in October 2009 the mobile exhibition had more than 300 thousand visitors. János Süli, the minister responsible for the Paks II. investment said on 2 March the electricity demand reached a new historic record, the system load reached 6835 MW, and 47% of this was covered by import sources, which is a very significant share. This also proves the establishment of the new nuclear power plant units is unavoidable regarding the security of supply. He emphasized that the nuclear power plant is not a rival to renewable energy sources, the two technologies complete each other. A good example is that by laying the foundation stone of the Paks solar power plant, Paks will not only be the city of nuclear, but be the center of solar energy and electric mobility as well.

egarding cooperaton János Süli reminded us: - We have been working together since the beginning, as when on 30 March 2009 the Parliament voted the preparatory work with 95,4% yes, I was the CEO of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, István Hamvas was Deputy CEO while István Lenkei was the Director for Capacity Enhancement. Our roles have been changed, but the maintenance of the performance of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant is still a common task and common goal.
