Construction of the foundation slab is ongoing

Most recently, two thousand cubic meters of concrete were poured into the foundation slab for the buildings of the Unit 5 nuclear island.

The concreting of the foundation slab—which serves as the foundation for the five buildings of the Unit 5 nuclear island and has an average thickness of three meters—is being carried out in bays. During the latest construction phase in the second week of September, work proceeded without interruptions for 30 hours. In an operation involving two shifts and 180 specialists, 2,010 cubic meters of C35/45 strength-class basalt concrete were poured into the foundation slab using twenty mixer trucks. The concreting was preceded by the installation of 670 tons of reinforcing steel.

While a comprehensive review of the project is still underway, construction activities continue with a focus on business continuity. This includes, among other things, the building of the Construction and Erection Base, the construction of the Training Centre, and the excavation of the Unit 6 excavation pit to the design level—a task that is more than 90 percent complete.
