Almost half of clean energy is from the nuclear power plant in Hungary
The nuclear power plants produce the most clean electricity in the European Union – can be found in the statistics of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSOE). By analysing the 2018 data of the ENTSOE it can be seen that 45% of carbon neutral electricity was generated by nuclear power plants. It can be also found that 70% more electricity is generated in the EU in NPPs, than by wind and solar plants combined. It is due to that the weather-dependent renewables’ general utilization is about 15-25%, while the NPPs’ is about 90%, since they can produce electricity 24/7. Based on ENTSOE’s 2018 statistics, 25,7% of total electricity consumption was generated by nuclear power plants in Europe.
In Hungary the Paks Nuclear Power Plants provided half of the domestic electricity production. Due to the Paks-generated clean electricity and the Hungarian renewables, two-third of the domestic electricity production is carbon neutral.
In the fight against climate chance, nuclear power plants cannot be ignored, since by using them we get electricity without emitting any greenhouse gases, e.g. carbon dioxide. Nuclear energy in an environmental protection point-of-view is a sustainable, a safe electricity generator responding to the challenges of climate change.
